Thanks to VERV's From Sharon Moffatt,
Acting Commissioner of Health

Dear Volunteers,

Vermont Emergency Medical Service (EMS) ambulance crews deployed in the wake of Hurricane Rita arrived in Texas to discover residents in need of medical care and medication with no electricity and no running water. They also discovered a community that had bonded together to help each other.

This type of bonding can be a powerful resource, whether it happens 2,000 miles away or here in Vermont. In order to optimize our ability to tap into a trained group of volunteers the Vermont Department of Health has created the VERV Program (Vermont Emergency Response Volunteers).

Your decision to join VERV strengthens our ability to save lives and alleviate suffering in the event of an emergency situation such as a bioterrorist attack or widespread outbreak of disease. VERV was formed using guidelines established by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and will be a large, powerful volunteer public health resource during a crisis.

Thank you again for your interest in VERV. I encourage you to learn more about the VERV Program by reading the information provided on our website. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Sharon Moffatt, RN, MSN
Acting Commissioner of Health
