Tobacco-Free Community Grants
$40,000 - $75,000 each for community coalitions to make NOT smoking the community norm. Successful applicants will show how they plan
- to prevent young people from starting to smoke
- to link smokers who want to quit with help
- to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke

New Directions Community Grants
$5,000–$40,000 each for community coalitions to enhance efforts to prevent alcohol and other drug use among youth in their community. Successful applicants will show how they plan to carry out strategies that have been proven to prevent or reduce substance abuse.
How to Apply
To be eligible, coalitions must have been in existence for at feast two years and must represent a community (defined as a town, county, school district, etc.)
A coalition may apply for either a New Directions or a Tobacco-Free grant, or both. A separate letter of intent to apply for each Tobacco-Free or New Directions community grant must be submitted and received no later than 4:30 p.m. on July 29, 2002. No e-mails or faxes will be accepted.
