BARRE –  The fifth and final regional "Know What to Do About the Flu" forum, hosted by the Vermont Department of Health and Vermont Emergency Management, will be held on Oct. 7, at the Barre Opera House.

“This is a situation that all muncipal leaders should be taking very seriously,” said City of Barre Mayor Thomas J. Lauzon. “We’re committed to doing everything we can in the city of Barre to ensure that our residents are well informed and prepared.”

The forum will provide local leaders and residents with an opportunity to learn about preparations now underway for the new flu – 2009 H1N1 influenza – along with the regular seasonal flu this fall.

The forum is free and will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., including time for a question-and-answer session. No pre-registration is required.

State officials will discuss preparations for offering H1N1 vaccine first to those groups of people most at risk for serious illness, and the current availability of seasonal influenza vaccine.

Regional forums will be followed by nine local flu forums around the state beginning in Ludlow on Oct. 8.

Extensive information, tools and resources about seasonal and pandemic flu, healthy habits and preparedness are available at the Health Department’s website: or dial 2-1-1. You can also follow us on Twitter at
