Covered Services
Federally funded through grants to the Health Department, Ladies First pays for breast and cervical cancer screenings that include: annual mammograms, clinical breast exams, pelvic exams, Pap tests, and instruction in breast self-exam. Ladies First also pays for repeat mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and colposcopies.

+ The Vermont Breast and Cervical Cancer Medicaid Treatment Program Under the federal Medicaid Treatment Act, Vermont began enrolling women directly from Ladies First onto Medicaid in July 2001. The program offers full Medicaid benefits to women during their treatment period. Ladies First initiates applications for this program. Providers may receive more information or begin the enrollment process for a patient by calling the Provider Support Line at 1-800-510-2282.
Medicaid Treatment Program Eligibility Criteria:
- A woman must be enrolled in Ladies First.
- A woman must be screened for breast or cervical cancer by Ladies First.
- A woman must be diagnosed with breast cancer, cervical cancer, or a pre-malignant condition (cervical dysplasia).
- A woman must require treatment services.
- A woman must have no other creditable health insurance.
- A woman must be a US citizen or a qualified alien.
- A woman must be under age 65.
++ Lifestyle Interventions are tailored to the patient’s needs, but typically include four to six visits with a nutritionist, and referral to a local physical activity program.
+++ Quit Line tobacco cessation services for Ladies First members include:
- nicotine replacement therapy (gum or patch) in conjunction with counseling
- quitting strategies
- a series of phone counseling sessions, and
- referrals to cessation support groups or counseling.
