Vermont Healthy Schools Resource
The Vermont Healthy Schools Resource: Nutrition and Physical Education/Activity provides school teams with ideas and examples for their school wellness policies.
The Resource complements the Vermont Nutrition and Fitness Policy Guidelines. We believe you will find it to be a valuable tool for implementing school wellness policies for nutrition, physical education and physical activity.
The Healthy Schools Resource is a joint project of the Departments of Education and Health, the Agency of Agriculture, and Vermont’s Action for Healthy Kids.

Fit and Healthy Kids School Wellness Awards
The Fit and Healthy Kids School Wellness Awards recognize schools whose policies and practices reflect a high priority on healthy outcomes for children.
The program is sponsored by Vermont’s Action for Healthy Kids, the New England Dairy Council, and the Vermont Departments of Health and Education.
Schools will be ranked on their scores and progress toward achieving a healthier nutrition and physical activity environment. All participating schools will receive a certificate of recognition. In addition, there will be one $500.00 and two $250.00 awards for the top scoring schools, to support school wellness activities.
Application Information
Award applications are due April 9, 2010. This gives schools the opportunity to consider, plan, and implement activities through the fall and winter to be “counted” in this application.
Top winners will be notified by May 7, 2010, and invited to a recognition event with Governor Douglas at the annual Wellness Walk to be held May 12, 2010.
