Medicaid & Other Federal Policy Impacts: How to Make a Difference
Congress passed legislation this year that will severely alter Medicaid and healthcare marketplace eligibility. Millions will lose coverage; many will be those with substance use disorders. The President has proposed collapsing SAMHSA, NIDA, NIAAA, HRSA and other agencies into the Administration for a Healthy America. We stand to lose the presence in federal policy making we have fought long and hard for.
As addiction professionals we need to advocate for our patients, our industry, and our workforce. There are things we can do, from helping our patients maintain eligibility to sharing our stories of changed lives when adequate and appropriate services are available. We will discuss recent legislative changes, what is still being considered, how states play a key role in Medicaid and block grant funds, and what you can do to advocate, both at the federal and state level.
