A child who is hungry or not getting the right nutrition may be irritable, sick more often, not grow well, could have trouble participating in therapy, school and social activities. Families with children who have trouble eating often need support. Our Registered Dietitians provide that support.
Reasons to refer a child for nutrition services:
Not gaining enough weight.
Gaining too much weight for their height.
Not eating a variety of foods.
Often has diarrhea, constipation or other digestion problems.
Trouble feeding or eating.
Not able to safely eat by mouth.
Has a new or different diagnosis requiring food nutrients.
Anyone in the child's circle of care can suggest nutrition services. Health care providers like doctors or nurses or Children's Integrated Services/Early Intervention team members can make a nutrition referral too.
This CSHN Nutrition Services Fact Sheet gives you information about feeding issues, more about Nutrition Services, and the steps that follow a referral.
