Vermont Law Protects Access to Emergency Medical Care

Vermont law helps ensure that people who experience a sudden illness or injury can get emergency medical services (EMS). It also establishes how Vermont guides EMS training and plans for emergency care across the state.

Access to emergency care: Under 18 V.S.A. § 901, all people in Vermont who experience a sudden, unexpected illness or injury have access to EMS. These services help save lives, prevent injuries from getting worse, and relieve suffering.

Statewide guidance and training: Under 18 V.S.A. § 909, Vermont established the EMS Advisory Committee and EMS Education Council to help guide statewide EMS planning and training. For more information, visit the EMS Advisory Committee page.

    • If an AED has been previously registered but the information needs to be updated, please email [email protected] and our staff will work with you to make the necessary adjustments.
    • You can apply for an AED Grant Program to subsidize the cost here: AED Grant for Individuals & Organizations.
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Registration Tool: Use this tool to notify the Vermont Department of Health that a public access defibrillator has been placed at your location.
    • Generate one entry per physical 9-1-1 address - the system will allow you to enter up to 10  placement locations for that specific address.
