Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorders and Eating Disorders
Substance use disorders (SUDs) and eating disorders (EDs) frequently co-occur, creating complex clinical presentations that can impact assessment, treatment engagement, and recovery outcomes. Individuals living with both conditions often experience greater medical and psychiatric risk, increased risk of return to substance use or recurrence of ED behaviors, and increased barriers to care when services are fragmented or siloed.
This interactive webinar will explore the intersection of SUDs and EDs, highlighting shared risk factors, screening considerations, and evidence-based integrated treatment approaches. Grounded in current guidance from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and related research, the session will examine how trauma, emotional dysregulation, neurobiology, and social factors that influence health contribute to the development and maintenance of these co-occurring disorders.
Participants will engage in case-based discussions to strengthen their ability to identify co-occurring symptoms, implement integrated care strategies, and enhance collaboration across behavioral health systems. This session is designed to equip providers with practical tools to improve outcomes for individuals experiencing both SUDs and EDs.
