Exploring Prevention Through a Social-Ecological Lens, Session 3: Connected Communities, Lasting Prevention

The community level of the Social Ecological Model (SEM) focuses on the conditions and relationships within broader social settings that influence behavior. Effective substance misuse prevention at this level means transforming environments—not just individuals—so that healthier choices become more available, visible, and supported.

In this third session of a 4-part series, participants will explore key elements of the SEM’s community level domain and how they can serve as powerful protective factors against substance misuse.  Moving beyond abstract theory, the session will present practical tools, evidence-based practices, and real-world applications.
