Overdose Grief, Loss and Healing Supports

Opioid overdoses have increased by 28% between April 2020-2021. Statistics are indicating over 100,000 overdoses are occurring annually. Appropriately, funding is targeting many organizational and structural prevention opportunities. But how do we respond to the emotional and psychological toll the overdose of a client or resident has on professionals and peers? What are the best ways to support both staff and clients?

This interactive session will review some of the main issues that arise when residents in recovery environments experience and don’t survive a recurrence. Content will review the behavioral, physical, and psychological responses to grief, self-care and coping strategies. Discussion will also review overdose postvention activities that can help support those staff and other residents impacted by overdose loss.
