Overweight and obesity rates have reached epidemic proportions in Vermont and across the United States. Over 60% of Vermonters are overweight or obese (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey, 2017). Risk factors including lack of physical activity, not eating enough fruits and vegetables, consuming sugary beverages and spending too much time in front of computers, phones and televisions all contribute to overweight and obesity rates. Current data on overweight and obesity rates as well as the risk factors can be found on the Vermont Department of Health Dashboard.
