Stay Healthy, Prevent Flu
How we learn about infectious disease
We investigate reports of infectious disease in Caledonia, Southern Essex and Orange Counties. If you are diagnosed with a reportable disease, one of our nurses may contact you to discuss your illness, ask you about how you got sick, and help prevent your friends and family from also getting sick. Learn more about the Health Department's work to prevent, track and treat reportable diseases, to keep our communities healthy.
To notify the Health Department about a reportable disease, call 802-863-7240 or 800-640-4374. Someone is available to receive your report 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. See more information for health care providers.

Examples of Our Work
We partner with local schools, businesses and healthcare providers to share best practices and resources to our community. For example, we host a quarterly meeting for area Infection Prevention staff to engage and network with speakers around preventing the spread of multidrug resistant organisms. Quality improvement projects are presented and discussed in an attempt to lower infection rates at local hospitals and long-term care facilities.
Brochures and posters are available in our office on topics ranging from tickborne illnesses, hand washing, and Zika virus.
Our staff work closely with local partners to develop workshops for nurses as well as a yearly opportunity for our Local Town Health Officers to network and receive education on current issues.
