Addiction: An Introduction to Clinical Skills (PSY 1170)

CCV has updated their curriculum for the Addiction: Introduction to Clinical Skills (PSY-1170) and is ready to offer it again in Spring 2025. This course has been approved by OPR to satisfy the AAP education requirements and helps prepare folks for the AAP exam.

Enrollment begins November 4th, and the course is online and runs in a “flex” format—people can enroll up through the mid-point of the semester and it is self-paced. The spring semester starts on January 21, 2025.

In addition, CCV offers the proctoring for the exam at a several locations--Winooski, Rutland, and Upper Valley centers. CCV is only able to offer the test on one day each month (in both mornings and afternoons).

This course provides students with the addiction and substance use disorder education required for the Apprentice Addiction Professional* (AAP) certification through the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation. Students will acquire key introductory clinical skills and knowledge, including screening, assessment and engagement; treatment planning, collaboration and referral; counseling; and professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • The AAP certification is required by the Vermont Department of Health's Division of Substance Use Programs for entry level providers in its Preferred Provider Network.
