A Fresh Look at the Strategic Prevention Framework: Community-Centered Prevention in Action Session 6: Weaving Prevention into the Fabric of Community Life
Instead of viewing the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) as a step-by-step prevention planning model, reimagine it as an ecosystem—one that’s adaptive and constantly evolving with the needs and culture of the community. Through this frame, the SPF is not simply a process to follow, but one that both creates and responds to a dynamic web of relationships, environments, histories, and possibilities. Each step of the SPF—Assessment, Capacity Building, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation—functions interdependently nourishing one another, responding to changing community conditions, and requiring ongoing attention. When we treat prevention as part of the broader ecosystem of community wellness, we shift our focus from managing problems to cultivating resilience, connection, and belonging.
This six-part webinar series invites prevention practitioners and partners to explore the SPF through this lens, focusing in on key skills in each step and grounding our discussion in real-life contexts. Be inspired by the potential of what we can grow together!
Session 6: Weaving Prevention into the Fabric of Community Life
Prevention becomes sustainable when it’s no longer seen as a separate initiative, but as part of the community’s DNA. This final session looks at how to embed prevention values into your community’s identity to regenerate momentum and nurture community ownership. We’ll explore how strengthening connections and cultivating a clear sense of purpose can ensure that prevention efforts continue to thrive in evolving conditions. Sustainability isn’t about keeping programs alive—it’s about keeping the ecosystem healthy.
Learning Objectives:
• Describe the SPF process as one that cultivates a dynamic and interdependent web of community relationships and adapts to changing community environments.
• Introduce key tasks and attributes of Sustainability as a guiding principle of the Strategic Prevention Framework.
• Cultivate long-term sustainability by integrating prevention into the community’s values, identity, and daily life.
