Kratom Consumers in the United States: What clinicians need to know

Kratom products are derived from the psychoactive botanical, Mitragynia speciosa, which has serotoninergic, alpha-adrenergic, opioidergic, and adenosinergic activity. Kratom us in the United States has increased significantly since 2010, yet there are critical gaps in our public health understanding of kratom products and the people who consume them. This course will involve a structured presentation by one of the nation's leading experts on kratom, with content designed for an audience with varying levels of knowledge on the subject. The presentation will cover kratom's basic pharmacology, legal status, and regulation, and will profile the population that uses kratom. This overview will be followed by a presentation of the latest clinical data on kratom and its relevance to clinicians, scientists, and other public health officials.
