Tips & Best Practices for K-12 Tobacco-Free Policies and Hazardous Waste Handling of Tobacco Products
Schools continue to be on the frontlines battling the youth vaping epidemic as they grapple with students who are addicted to these high-nicotine products and then must deal with the hazardous and toxic waste resulting from the large-scale confiscation of electronic delivery devices and other tobacco product waste.
This webinar will be divided into two parts, first providing an overview of the Public Health Law Center’s K-12 Model Commercial Tobacco-Free Policy, a national resource for states and school districts interested in creating or strengthening a policy that emphasizes supportive, non-punitive disciplinary approaches that place the health and well-being of the student first. The second part will give an overview of the types of hazardous waste contained in vape products and the potential legal considerations for schools, the need for policies that cut the source of the waste, and safety measures for handling and temporarily storing confiscated products.
