Youth Engagement and Empowerment as Prevention

Participants will learn about adolescent brain development and how relationships influence the process of developing identities. This will set the foundation for our understanding of youth, their growth, and how they experience their world. We will explore how individual experiences, environments, and adversity can impact both brain and social-emotional development, while also talking about what signs & behaviors indicate that a young person is struggling with their personal wellbeing. We will review resiliency factors, principles of healing centered care, and frameworks for empowering youth to create change in their lives, as means of risk prevention and wellness promotion in learning how we can best support our youth and cultivate hope.
