Air Quality Can Affect Your Health
When air pollution increases, health risks also increase. Air pollution – especially wildfire smoke – contains harmful particles and gases that can make the air unhealthy to breathe. Climate change is increasing the risk of wildfires and other sources of pollution, making poor air quality more common.
Some people are at higher risk from air pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refers to these groups as "sensitive groups":
- People with heart or lung disease
- Older adults
- Children
